My name is Olowa Dorcas Oluwafunke, a proud student of the Department of Agriculture, University of Ilorin, and the founder of a growing plantain chips production business. My mission is simple yet powerful — to provide healthy, flavourful, and nutritious snacks that people can enjoy guilt-free.
Before TECASBE 2.0, my business was fueled purely by passion and grit. I produced plantain chips manually, using firewood under the hot sun, often juggling the demanding balance between academics and entrepreneurship. It was exhausting — but I believed in my vision.
TECASBE: A Turning Point
Everything changed when I got selected as one of the winners of TEC ASBE 2.0 in 2025. I was awarded ₦1 million, generously sponsored by MERISTEM, to scale up my business — and the impact was immediate and profound.
This opportunity didn’t just fund my business; it transformed how I operate:
- I replaced firewood with an industrial gas burner and stand, making production safer, faster, and more efficient.
- I built a shade over my production spot to shield myself and my team from the elements.
- I officially registered the business, marking a huge step towards formalization.
- I rebranded the entire product line, giving it a more professional and market-ready appearance.
- I purchased sealing and packaging machines to improve shelf life and presentation.
- I scaled up production and invested in marketing to reach new customers.
What I Learned
Participating in the TECASBE program was more than just a win — it was a life-changing experience. It reshaped how I viewed entrepreneurship. I now understand that being an entrepreneur isn’t just about having an idea; it’s about resilience, structure, vision, and continuous improvement.
Balancing school with business is still challenging, but TECASBE has lightened that load and given me tools and confidence to move forward with strength and clarity.
A Heartfelt Thank You
To TECASBE, MERISTEM, and the University of Ilorin, I offer my deepest gratitude. Your belief in my potential and your investment in my dream have not only improved the quality of my business but also fueled my determination to aim higher.
You have played a vital role in shaping my entrepreneurial journey, and for that, I am truly thankful.
